Prashar Lake is located in Mandi District of HP at an altitude of 2730 mtr (9000 feet). Holy Lake is known for three story Pagoda style Temple of Prashar Rishi and its floating island. Lake is Surrounded by green Meadows & around the meadows are dense alpine forest. Lake also offers Panoramic view of snow clad ranges of Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal and Great Himalayas. Water of the lake is clear and you can spot fishes inside, on a clear day lake appears blue when seen from the surrounding hillocks. Prashar Lake has a perimeter of around 300 meters and a walk around the lake gives a mystical experience of calmness of the surrounding.
A visit to Prashar is a perfect mix of spiritual journey and exploring into the serene Himalayan Ranges. Other attractions for Visitors around Prashar Lake area are Sukha-sar, Aadi Brahma Temple & Tunga Mata Temple, you probably will need couple of additional days to cover all of these. There are two hillocks on east and west side of the lake offering perfect bird eye view of the lake for photography & selfies. Views of North are quite open but to get the views of Great Himalayan National park and its peaks you have to climb one of the hills and look towards the east.
Prashar Lake trek is a two day one night plan, Most people start the trek to Prashar lake from Jwalapur Village which is situated on the eastern slopes of the Prashar hills. To reach Jwalapur you have to take diversion from NH21 at Panarsa near the famous Aut tunnel. There are regular shared taxis from Panarsa to Jwalapur village. From Jwalapur it’s a 8km easy trek alongside a clear stream of water, through the forest on the sloppy hills
Trek offers an easy flat start through pine forests, after a km we descend to a stream and later follow the stream through lush green forests. Stream with numerous waterfalls enroute, makes the trek much more interesting, we cross this stream multiple times during the trek. Near one of the waterfalls we will take a pit stop for a quick lunch (Packed Lunch). Now begins real uphill stretch till you reach the ridge. Tree line finishes as you reach the ridge and you are rewarded by the Open views of mountain ranges and Prashar Meadows. Few Kms of flat walk on the meadows and you see the magnificent lake on your Left. Floating Island on the lake will make you speechless for a moment Visit the Prashar Rishi Temple, take blessings & make new wishes to the deity. Spend some time at the lake & Capture the Himalayan Silhouette during sunset. There are couple of local dhabba's n Shops around Lake where you can grab hot Tea or a quick Snack. Enjoy the Clear Blue sky with countless stars, milky-way can also be spotted followed by camping under the Stars at Prashar Lake
Wake-up to the Himalayan misty morning, Enjoy 360 panoramic view of the mighty Himalayas. Early Risers can do Sunrise Photography or setup camera gear for timelapse videos. You can choose to do some Yoga, meditation or Stretching or go around the lake for a parikrama. Both sides of the Lake there are hillocks which you can climb to take bird-eye pics of the lake.
